VBS 2009

The Powell Family hosted VBS again this year. What a blessing to be able to serve our church in this capacity. =)

A full week of cleaning, preparing, and hosting makes for some very tired Powell's. But, by God's grace, we made it through another year.

Summer Reading - Part 2

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” ~C.S. Lewis

“You know you've read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.” ~ Paul Sweeney

“I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.” ~Groucho Mark

“If a book is really good, it deserves to be read again, and if it's great, it should be read at least three times.” ~Anatole Broyard

“A lot of people ask me if I were shipwrecked, and could only have one book, what would it be? I always say 'How to Build a Boat'.” ~Stephen Wright

“Beware the person of one book.” ~Latin Proverb

My First Sunday School Class

He said to the sons of Israel, "When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, 'What are these stones?' Then you shall inform your children, saying, 'Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.' Joshua 4:21,22

Just as in the Bible, believers today are to raise the children in the covenant and educate them in the ways of the Lord. What a blessing for me to have an opportunity to shape young hearts and minds before I have children of my own! My prayer is that I will be clear and help my young 3-5 memorize and understand God's word.

Daniel's Graduation

During the last weekend in May, my family and I traveled to St. Albans, WV for Daniel's high school graduation. It was a wonderful event. CHEWV board members, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman, do a fabulous job every year.

We were all so blessed to hear the stories of other homeschool families; each one is so unique. Thank God for the next generation of homeschoolers.

It seems now that our family is done homeschooling... but as Dad told Justin K. yesterday... We're not done with discipleship. Isn't that what homeschooling is all about?!

On Saturday, we all enjoyed John Stonestreet's lectures, the fellowship of homeschoolers, and the variety of books in the vendor hall. I have so much to read!

Soon to come...

For those of you who have been waiting for pictures of Daniel's graduation, I promise to post them ASAP. :)

UP

I try to take my "little" friends to see a movie every once in awhile. Our choice this time was Pixar's newest gem, UP. It was fabulous! Not only did I get to hang out with my girlies, but their younger brother came with us for the first time. :) It is so good to have "my" kids growing up. And a few friends tagged along...

My first 3D movie
Henry and Daniel (The flash was bright!)
Mel, Ineke, and Ana -- who refused to open her eyes. :)
Sammi and Dee
Keely, Kiri, Kelsie (Back)
Julia and Johnny (Front)
We couldn't resist one silly photo

I heartily recommend UP. It was a great way to spend an afternoon. It is a pity that more children's films aren't that classy.
